33% of Amercians Pay for Unused Streaming Subscriptions

Back to Insights

There’s a new study that was conducted by Bango research indicating that one-third of Americans who have paid streaming video services don’t use them.

The study polled sixteen thousand consumers from North America, South America, and Europe. One common pain point expressed by consumers revolved around auto payments from their bank and credit card accounts. The report reveals that 44% of Americans are frustrated with keeping track of when they signed up, and how they can manage the subscriptions.

So Many Video Apps

To further highlight the app fatigue that many are experiencing, the annual Rural American Consumer Video report reveals that 13 different streaming services received at least a 9% share of the market. In our 2019 report, only three services generated a measurable share of the OTT streaming market.

The owners of these streaming services make it very difficult for developers to create an aggregated management platform even though consumers worldwide are clamoring for it.

The Solution?

Linear video offered by local providers already has an aggregated platform where consumers can access hundreds of different varieties of content on a single bill. The perceived rub is watching content on your schedule, and that was addressed long ago with cDVR, Pause Live TV, and Restart TV. Over 100 Innovative Systems video customers are now committed to MG-TV Live Streaming allowing customers access to full channel lineups with consumer devices. When you add time-shifted viewing features and the ability to skip through commercials it checks all the pain points that consumers are struggling with in regards to ala carte apps and multiple monthly credit or bank account charges.
