Located along the I-35 corridor in north central Iowa, Comm1 in Kanawha Iowa is leveraging technology to address the evolving video market in their service territory, According to Plant Manager Jayson Keiper, Comm1 has made a significant investment in the Innovative Systems IS-5041W Set Top Box (STB) for several reasons. Even though they still prefer a wired connection, the access point mode for wireless deployment is helpful for times they can’t get a STB wired easily. Comm1 is expanding into others communities, and according to Keiper the wireless option of the 5041W gives Comm1 some viable solutions for MDUs, where wiring individual units for TV is not cost effective.

Live Streaming with the 5041W
Comm1 is also preparing to launch an HLS live streaming service later this year, and the the newest Innovative Systems STB differentiates itself because it can be used instead of a consumer video device like Amazon, Apple, or Roku. The Comm1 management teams believes that video will eventually transition over to an all-streaming delivery and they want to satisfy their loyal customers who still desire the traditional remote/STB experience. Keiper says that with the same remote and STB, a customer does not need to be concerned with how the video is delivered to their home, they just want to push a button on the remote and watch TV.
